Purpose of the Role

The Front of House Manager leads a team to provide an exceptional experience and standard of service to every visitor attending an Artangel project. The successful candidate will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to use their own initiative.

Key Responsibilities

  • To create and maintain a friendly, welcoming atmosphere
  • To be the first point of contact for the FoH Team and manage the Team on site including day-to-day absences, breaks, queries, concerns, and feedback 
  • To ensure excellence in visitor care is consistently achieved
  • To lead the team in delivering its duty of care for visitors, including fire evacuation and first aid responsibilities
  • To support the team by sharing information about the project and all activity on site
  • To provide tailored assistance and information to visitors with access requirements
  • To manage and circulate the staff rota and to review and submit staff time sheets
  • To regularly liaise with Artangel’s Production team and report any safety or management issues promptly
  • To deal with visitor comments or queries confidently, effectively and appropriately
  • To act as a keyholder for the site for the duration of the project, responsible for opening up the site and closing down at the end of day 
  • To manage the collection of visitor data

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience of managing a team 
  • Experience in a public-facing role where engaging customers in meaningful exchanges are key
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude and a flexible and adaptable approach to work 
  • Ability to work independently and with initiative
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, with demonstrable problem solving skills  
  • Experience of considering, inputting and following health and safety and risk management policies
  • Fluent in English
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office 
  • Experience of handling cash and card sales
  • Experience using Eventbrite, Ticket Taylor or other box office systems

Desirable

  • Experience devising rotas for the FoH Team  
  • Experience checking and processing time sheets 
  • First Aid training
  • Fire Marshal training
  • Access Equality training
  • Conversant in other languages (including BSL)
  • Enthusiasm for working in the arts
