Making Time: towards a climate positive community of practice

Part of Making Time

21.04.26

Status: Coming up

A discussion exploring the Making Time artist development programme and the role of knowledge exchange in supporting climate-positive practice in the cultural sector.

Reflecting on the knowledge sharing - at the individual and collective levels - enabled by a multi-year, multi-site programme, the panel will consider community building as a model of change making in the cultural sector and explore the challenges of evaluating a multi-site programme.

Key questions that the discussion will explore:

  • How are artists supported in the face of climate change and how are these conversations supported?
  • How do we make sure the conversations between artists and academics are mutually beneficial and not extractive?
  • How do we hold and share learning while facilitating knowledge exchange across five cohorts of artists and multiple university partners?
  • What kind of structures will need to be in place to disseminate findings widely in the cultural sector?

Audiences will hear from programme participants from a range of perspectives; academic, artistic and programmers, to gain insight into what the success and challenges have been in implementing this programme, and think together about where change happens and how we record it; at the individual, institutional and sectoral scales.

The panel will be chaired by Persilia Caton, Collection Curator, Artangel, in conversation with Claire Baily, artist, Abbas Zahedi, artist, Laura Purseglove, Producer, Science Gallery London and Siavash Ali Madadi Jani, King’s College London and other academic and artistic perspectives.
