Purpose of the Role

Front of House Assistants provide an exceptional experience and standard of service to every visitor to an Artangel project.  They are the first point of contact between Artangel and visitors and responsible for creating a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.  A responsibility for public safety is also central to this role.

As part of your working pattern you will be expected to work weekends, bank holidays and evenings.  Working hours and days will be agreed in advance with your line manager.

Specific Responsibilities

  • To create and maintain a friendly, welcoming atmosphere
  • To ensure excellence in visitor care is consistently achieved
  • To demonstrate a duty of care for visitors by ensuring that public areas are safe and accessible at all time and assist the Front of House Manager with fire evacuation and first aid responsibilities
  • To follow all required policies and procedures, ensuring that any issues are reported to the Front of House Manager promptly
  • To provide tailored assistance and information to visitors with access requirements
  • To participate in the collection of visitor data
  • To handle cash and card sales and ticket booking enquiries
  • To answer visitor comments or queries confidently, effectively and appropriately

Skills and Experience


  • Experience in a public-facing role where engaging customers in meaningful exchanges are key
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude
  • Experience of following health and safety and risk management policies
  • Fluent in English
  • Experience in handling cash and card sales


  • First Aid Training
  • Fire Marshal Training
  • Access Equality Training
  • Experience using Eventbrite or other box office systems
  • Conversant in other languages (including BSL)
  • Enthusiasm for working in the arts
