Purpose of the Role

The Development Assistant is responsible for supporting the Development Manager in the smooth running of a small team with big ideas. The role will focus on individual giving and delivering a varied events programme for Artangel’s patrons. Artangel’s fundraising spans individual giving, trusts and foundations and corporate sponsorship. The role will require some evening and weekend work, for which time off in lieu will be given.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Coordinate a busy events programme for patrons, including trips abroad, from compiling and managing the guest list to delivery on the day
  • Assist the Development Manager with relationship management and provide exceptional levels of service
  • Draft correspondence to donors including thank you and renewal letters
  • Design invitations and e-newsletters on Mailchimp and find creative ways to engage patrons with Artangel’s work
  • Maintain accurate data on the Raiser’s Edge and mailing lists in compliance with new GDPR legislation
  • Undertake monitoring and reporting on patron engagement
  • Ensure the relevant website pages are updated
  • Maintain up-to-date Gift Aid information for all donors
  • Provide administrative support with Direct Debits
  • Undertake research into potential trusts and foundations
  • Assist the Development Manager with report writing and evaluations
  • Assist the Development Manager with communicating the work of the organisation to prospective donors

Essential

  • At least one year's administration experience
  • Experience working on events
  • High degree of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, using databases and mail merge
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise own work independently, in consultation with others and as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate confidently with a wide range of contacts from patrons to contractors
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Diplomatic and able to deal appropriately with sensitive or confidential information
  • Highly motivated with a positive attitude and flexibility
  • Calm under pressure, with a can-do approach to solving problems
  • Confidence in building relationships with people at all levels of seniority
  • Interest in the arts

Desirable

  • Experience in a cultural organisation
  • Understanding of fundraising activities
  • Experience using the Raiser’s Edge and Mailchimp
  • Interest in contemporary visual art presented outside the gallery
