One starting point for Dig was Silver's fascination with Freud's collection of sculptures.

Freud could never really stomach the cinema. In 1923, Samuel Goldwyn offered him $100,000 to serve as a consultant on a film about Anthony and Cleopatra as "the foremost expert on love". He refused without hesitation.

The artist in conversation with James Lingwood

For me this defacing is their identity, that's who they are. It happens very casually in the studio. I try not to work meticulously on one sculpture. ItÂ’s more about hanging around with them, and I stumble on them, or they stumble on me, my elbow ends up in their chest, or they just have to be manipulated in a certain way.
