CONRAD ATKINSON
Consuming Culture

March–October 1987

Conrad Atkinson’s poster-works featured large-scale re-worked front pages of the Financial Times and Wall Street Journal for display in the London Underground and Tyne & Wear Metro. Bogus headlines and fictitious snippets of news made humorous references to relationships between the worlds of art, politics and commerce. The work examined the ethics and power of culture in an advanced technological society, mocking our addictive consumption of information through the major media systems.
