Noël Noir is a twisted take on traditional pantomime created by artist Donald Urquhart, actor Chris Robson and performers from the Cardboard Citizens, the UK’s only homeless people’s theatre company. The group is collaborating to explore the darker side of seasonal fairy tales and rituals and present a performance about what Christmas means to them. Noël Noir is an Artangel Interaction project inspired by the Krampus in Jamie’s film Kranky Klaus.

Cardboard Citizens is this country’s only professional homeless people’s theatre company. It performs in hostels, day centres, schools, theatres and site-specific spaces. Its programme offers people from all backgrounds a space to meet, play, learn, perform, make new friends. Cardboard Citizens recently collaborated with the RSC on an acclaimed production of Shakespeare’s Pericles.

Donald Urquhart’s recent solo shows include The Beautiful Bend Story in May 2003 at Magnani Gallery (London), an exhibition of artwork from his eponymous underground club in King’s Cross. His group shows in 2003 include the Armoury show in New York and the forthcoming Frieze fair in London.
